Day 4

Today was a quieter day and we slept in till 10, then visited one of Alices mums friends who is a weaver it was amazing to see! Then after lunch we went to the Shipley Gallery to see the Penguin exhibition which was amazing it made me want to do everything by hand, i think a lot is lost these days when all the process in design is competed on a computer instead of by hand! then at the local library was a beautiful illustartion exhibition. lastly a trip around newcastle town centre including a trip to buy some penguin books, a visit to a beautiful old library and then some cool thrift stores :) then an evening filled with blogging, great!

First a trip to the famous Harry potters castle, it was very beautiful sitting on a hill full of sheep! Then it was a trip to Holy Island where you can see the pictures above are from. This island is tiny with very few shops and can only be reached when the tide is out, it was such a sunny day though and it made me feel very happy and content.

Then we went to Bamburgh and the little museum of Grace Darling, she was a victorian heroine working in a lighthouse and one night saving 5 people from shipwreck. it was a beautiful museum and small village. Then it was to the beach which is pictured above it looks like we are in a foreign country the sky was so blue and the sun so bright, it was so lovely. Alice Jenny and I even danced on the beach (see awful gif!), I made a sand angel and Alice and I raced up sand dunes!

Lastly was a trip to Walkworth castle which was yet again beautiful and was a lovely end to a lovely day, i was very tired but it was worth it :) below you can see some highlights of this wonderful day.

Newcastle

Day one

It was a long journey leaving at 7.30am and arriving in Newcastle at 1pm, Alices dad met us at the station and then we went back to hers to rest a little before we took a trip around the allotments near her house and then had a lovely home cooked dinner, then bed to prepare ourselves for the busy day ahead tomoro.

Day Two

It was an early morning when we arrived at Tynemouth market which was amazing - i bought two books on the world atlas and then 3 maps i really do love maps!!! Then we went to an amazing little bookshop before seeing the Tyneside coastline. Then after a spot of lunch we went to the Northern print studios where there were some beautiful woodcuts. Then lastly we went to Hardians famous wall which you can see below, Alice and I even stood on the wall after not seeing the "do not climb on the wall" sign hmm oh well! We were all very tired after that but still managed to find some time to make bows that night after dinner :)

Here are 3 book covers I have designed, they are part of the "Distinctively Odd Series" that are brought out by penguin each year, they are really odd book titles and this project was quite a challenge, each book was so different and the design had to reflect that but also they needed to look like part of a series. Feels good to be done just 5 projects to go.....

I had a crit today for my redesign of Steve Reichs 'Different Trains' It is an early electro piece which combines melody and speech, it explores the movements of Steve throughout the war years from LA to NY and how as a jew if he were living in Europe he would be taking different trains. I thought a map in an old style that combines the history and the music would be the best outcome, and im very pleased :)

Finally after a months work on a Live project for the universities fashion and textiles department. Each year they have a show to show off their collections and me and two fellow graphic designers were asked to design the show poster, leaflet and tickets. It has been a long process but at last its sent to the printers to be printed by offset litho, im so excited to see the final piece. Here are the designs, the poster is the front and it has the leaflet on the back and it all folds down sweetly :) hope you all like.
