Stamps.
For a project called 'subvert the familiar' I want to look at money and how we could subvert the value of it, as at times in economic crisis in history the money is literally not worth the paper it is printed on.
Hyperinflation is inflation that is very high or "out of control", a condition in which prices increase rapidly as a currency loses its value and in countries experiencing hyperinflation, the central bank often prints money in larger and larger denominations as the smaller denomination notes become worthless. This can result in the production of some interesting banknotes, including those denominated in amounts of 1,000,000,000 or more.
The largest denomination banknote ever officially issued for circulation was in 1946 by the Hungarian National Bank for the amount of 100 quintillion pengő
I just thought this was all so interesting especially these stamps that as you can see it wasn't worth reprinting the stamps so they simply reprinted the inflated price on top of the old ones - Brilliant!
