Life



Life is an amazing wildlife programme on the bbc narrated by the amazing David Attenborough. It is beautiful and well worth a watch here if you can. They were also advertising for a free poster so i sent off for one and just got mine yay, I love it.

New Mum Photos

It wasn't an easy decision and i do love the photos that I blogged about yesterday however they just weren't quite good enough, they didn't quite capture the magic of the music and the type seemed just very generic so here are some new photos and a new logo. The photos are much more grainy and the colours and levels just so much more interesting, Im even more excited now.

It has been a long day today in a tiny little studio, with 2 great girls, 2 digital projectors, an OHP and lots of cut out shapes and letterforms and the result is these above which are the first stages of the images that will be used on the cover of Mums album 'finally we are no one'. It hasnt been an easy project and it is far from over but its also been really exciting I just hope I can turn these beautiful initial images into amazing album covers and the like... fingers crosses.

Photo Etching





For a project called Subvert The Familiar I chose to subvert money, and specifically look at the value of money, its a pretty simple solution but they are often the best. I am etching the image of a £10 note on to £10s worth of silver, making you question the value of it. This is the first attempt trial on Zinc, the note has many different tones so its hard to get all the detail but I am going to try so hopefully it will look even better soon.

Transatlantic Design




It has been a great week for the Transatlantic Design project. We were in the CETLD newsletter and were asked to do two talks. One for the CETLD department where we held our won for a whole hour we were so scared to do this and wondered whether we were going to be able to talk for that long, but in hindsight I have no idea why we were worried, for a start we can all talk for england and also our project is so strong it almost speaks for itself. We also were invited to speak in a level two Product Design talk by Chris Rose a great lecturer who we had actually interviewed in New York. Both went down really well and it felt great to talk about such a successful project, It was even suggested we publish a book, I never thought I could do something like this but it showed me I can I kinda feel very proud.

Fun with two digital projectors









Looking into the idea of childhood and that if you had a cardboard box you could turn it into anything, your imagination is endless, therefore by using projections your expressing how imagination is an illusion and its not really there. Although the music is from a band based in Iceland the music is simply atmospheric and therefore can be used in more of an abstract way, imagery to somehow be used for Mums album Finally we are no one. I hope gets even better

Work has been going quite slowly and at times has been a struggle and so tonight having to complete a project in literally a couple of hours has been a welcome change. As part of our transatlantic design project we have been asked to do another talk for the CETLD department tomorrow and we needed a simple yet interesting leaflet to give out, it was created and ready to print within 3 hours and Im very happy, yay!

Stress



I feel like final year is getting very stressful and highly competitive, I guess its a realistic representation of how the industry is but at the same time its making me feel very unsure about where I am and where I should be going. I am starting to doubt my abilities as a designer and almost feel like I am at tipping point. Today I wanted to sit and draw but the list as long as my arm made me feel I couldn't spare the time, however I ended up sitting and drawing Scrooge and Marleys house, I am not the best illustrator but I enjoy it and Iv started to see that maybe these smaller more enjoyable projects are just as important. I would rather spend my life doing work I love enjoy then trying to please everyone and get the best grades, Life is a balance of work and play and doing what makes you happy alongside what you need to do. I hope that I can tip he right way now and use all this feeling to push myself to do the best I can.

Back to Basics






We have just been set a really interesting new project where I am working with two illustrators to create album art work, Im so excited especially to go back to basics and get away from my mac! Tomorrow we are playing with light with a projector I cant wait! Iv also begun drawing again and although im not great it feels great.
